Originally written in 1918 as a benefit for Camp Upton in Yaphank on Long Island, the performances at the camp attracted attention from New York and the show transferred to Century Theatre.
“Oh! How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning” is the most famous song from the show which also includes other views of Army life (“Poor Little Me, I’m a K.P.),” and the rousing finale “We’re On Our Way to France.” These performances will include one song cut from the show: “God Bless America” in its original version before Berlin’s revision for Kate Smith in 1938.
