Ellington called these concerts 'the most important thing I have ever done'.
After its premiere, Ebony magazine called the piece 'historic', situating it as part of a larger movement in the mid-60s that brought together jazz and religion.
Excerpts from this historic work will be presented with a combined adult choir and soloists from People’s Baptist Church, teens from Boston City Singers, Paul White jazz trio, a narrator, and a tap dancer at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Jamaica Plain.
