About Methuen Memorial Music Hall
The Methuen Memorial Music Hall, originally known as Serlo Organ Hall, was built between 1899 and 1909 by Edward F. Searles (1841-1920). It was designed by architect Henry Vaughan (1845-1917). The Music Hall contains the 'Great Organ', built in 1863 in Germany for the Boston Music Hall.
Vaughan's architectural commission was to design a concert hall for the express purpose of housing the organ in the visual and acoustical setting that Searles felt it deserved. Preservation of the Music Hall and the 'Great Organ' is managed by a private, volunteer, nonprofit corporation. Contributions to help fund the restoration, maintenance and operation of the property are always welcome, and are tax-deductible.
