After being the rhythm section for many quartets and quintets over the years in the Boston and New England area, pianist Steve Hunt, bassist Bruce Gertz and drummer Jack Diefendorf broke out on their own to form the jazz group ‘TRIO NOW’.
The group has recorded 3 albums for SpiceRack Records and is working on a 4th release.
Both Steve and Bruce are prolific composers and most of the songs on the three CD releases and during their performances are original compositions from these two members of the jazz trio.
The styles range from the more traditional jazz trio sounds of Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans, to the more moderns sounds and styles of McCoy Tyner, Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea.
The trio’s exceptional and exciting interplay and musical conversations during the improvisations have thrilled and delighted audiences who love the sound and concept of the jazz piano trio.
“It takes the seasoned pro longer to listen than it does to play and this trio is like a group of friends having a deep conversation getting a perfect balance between transmitting and receiving” – Jerry Bergonzi
This concert is part of the monthly jazz series at the W and is led by Berklee College of Music Professor and Jazz Chair of the W Gallery, Neil Olmstead.
Please stay after the concert for a reception honoring the artists featured in our June Exhibit.
The reception will take place from 3 pm to 4 pm with delicious refreshments and is free to all!
