The Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO), under the direction of Founder and Conductor Benjamin Zander, begins its second decade with Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben, his biographical tone poem performed at the BPYO’s very first concert in 2012, followed and the most famous of all symphonies, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.The concert commemorates Mr. Zanders 50 years as a conductor.
Zander’s bracing, often revelatory account of Beethoven’s Fifth has thrilled audiences at Boston Philharmonic Orchestra concerts and all over the world whenever he has conducted it.
His study of what Beethoven actually wrote revealed a piece that is quite different from what one usually hears.
