This year’s 18th annual gathering of activist street musicians. Current count is at 33 bands, with this year’s participants hailing from all across the United States.

With memberships as big as 30 players, many of this year’s festival participants will travel some distance (for example, from Georgia, Texas, California, Washington, Colorado) to join in this annual uproariously jubilant purposeful gathering held during Indigenous Peoples Day weekend.

HONK Festival is held in Somerville, Cambridge, and Boston neighborhoods rain or shine.

HONK! Festival, a music fest originally conceived and presented in 2006 right here in Somerville (MA), caught on immediately in the local area. Since then HONK! has also become an international phenomenon.

Given that, the very first ever local HONK! Festival is now eighteen years strong, prevailing annually in early October, in spite of the very recent tough years.

HONK! has always been clear on its most basic premise, to literally blast out, musically loud and rhythmically direct, a call to come together.

To gather outside in celebrating the many positive aspects of life – while also delivering a heads up if those positives take a negative turn.

Visit HERE for details on how HONK! came to be, the philosophical and pragmatic approaches behind what has now became a HONK! international movement, and what differentiates a HONK! band from other music-makers in the streets.
