Originating in the Baroque era, a concerto grosso is a form of orchestral music most notable for the oppositional relationship between a small group of soloists, or concertino, and the accompanying full orchestra, or ripieno.The solo instruments engage in dialogue and display virtuosic passages, while the ripieno supports and complements their performance.
