After their triumphant, five-city, cross-cultural tour of South Africa in June, the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO), comprised of some of Boston's top musicians at area colleges and grade schools who are destined to become tomorrow's stars and under the baton of Maestro Benjamin Zander, returns to Symphony Hall with 50 new members.

The concert also represents the BPYO’s first performance of a Brahms symphony in its 12-year history.

Brahms, who was born six years after Beethoven died, spent 14 years writing his first symphony, often jokingly referred to as “Beethoven’s Tenth” because of its many similarities to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony—minus the chorale finale.
