A Storytelling Adventure with Original Music by the Magid Ensemble!
What’s a Crankie?
It’s a long scroll that illustrates a story, as it unwinds.
Based on a folktale by A. C. Weaver & inspired by traditional Yiddish folklore -- follow a young woman’s quest from the realms of the dead to the gardens of the immortal – all to restore her friend's lost voice.
The narrative is told through live original klezmer music -- & Kiah Raymond's crankie incorporates shadow puppetry inspired by Jewish papercut art.
Introducing The Magid Ensemble – a new collaboration featuring award-winning klezmer musicians & composers Mattias Kaufmann, Raffi Boden, & Rachel Leader, Yiddishist storyteller A. C. Weaver, & visual artist Kiah Raymond.
The Magid Ensemble explores the interplay of sound, story, light, & shadow to create expressive & immersive storytelling landscapes.
This dynamic performance is geared towards audiences of all ages!
Reception with light bites, slivovitz, wine & open top shelf bar follows the performance.
