The Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO), composed of musicians age 12-21 from the East Coast, performs their final concert of the 2023-24 season, under the baton of Founder and Conductor Benjamin Zander, and featuring Robert Schumann’s Cello Concerto followed by Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No.5, which will also be performed during the BPYO’s five-city European tour from June 15-25.The concert can be experienced both in-person and via livestream.
Schumann's soul-stirring Cello Concerto features the virtuosic talents of cellist Zlatomir Fung, the youngest cellist ever to win First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition.
As Artist-in-Residence with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2023-24 season, Fung has appeared at London’s Cadogan Hall and is touring the UK with the orchestra.
The Westborough, MA native is a graduate of The Julliard School where he is also currently a faculty member.
Zander’s profound connection to Mahler's music has earned him significant recognition, including the very first Titan Award from the Mahler Society of New York.
