Boston, MA – The Boston Chamber Symphony (BCS) closes its season relaunch on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 4:00 PM.

This concert will feature beloved, contrasting works for chamber orchestra that showcase the brilliant talent of the BCS member-soloists.

This season marks a return to the stage for the Boston Chamber Symphony after a multi-year hiatus following the pandemic lockdown.

“I’m so excited to work with the Boston Chamber Symphony on three of my favorite pieces in the chamber orchestra repertoire,” says Music Director Avlana Eisenberg.

“Each is a gem, and together they reflect such a sweeping range of emotions and musical styles – from Bartok’s haunting folk melodies and pulsating rhythms; to Mozart’s evocative Symphony #40 featuring one of classical music’s most iconic opening themes; to the brilliant wit and slapstick comedy of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella.”

This season closer features masterworks that exhibit the range and technical mastery of the ensemble.

Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances includes seven mini-movements, with melodies inspired by Transylvanian folk tunes performed by solo violin, clarinet, and piccolo.

Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite was adapted from Stravinsky’s eponymous ballet, which was inspired by the traditional commedia dell'arte and featured original sets and costumes by Pablo Picasso.

BCS celebrates the work’s Boston roots, as Stravinsky’s Suite was originally premiered by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1922.

Anchoring the June concert is Mozart’s Symphony No. 40.

Dubbed the “Great G Minor Symphony,” and one of only two symphonies Mozart wrote in a minor key, this evocative work is one of his most admired compositions for its emotional range and dramatic intensity.

Music Director Avlana Eisenberg will conduct, and a reception with the performers will follow the program.

The concert will be held at Temple Ohabei Shalom, 1187 Beacon St., Brookline.
