The New School Singers, an auditioned teen chamber choir, will perform selections from I Never Saw Another Butterfly, a choral setting of children’s poems, set to music by American cantor Charles Davidson as a Holocaust Memorial to the children who passed through the Terezin concentration camp on their way to Auschwitz.
Faculty soloists will include Laurelle Mathison performing French songs, Stephen Pixley performing Yiddish art songs, and Paula Downes performing late medieval works by Bernart de Ventadorn and Hildegard von Bingen. The New School Singers are directed by Sandi Hammond and accompanied by pianist Nick Warseck. The New School of Music celebrates its 31st year as Cambridge’s community music school, with a lasting reputation for high-quality instruction open to all ages and levels, and with a community service mission to make music instruction accessible to all who seek it by partnering with social service agencies, schools, libraries and senior centers throughout the region.
