Join sanctuary field teachers for this six-session series as we explore the wonders of fall as it unfolds throughout the sanctuary.

Each session includes a story, a themed activity, and plenty of time spent outdoors learning about nature. Each participant will receive a journal. We also offer a Friday morning series.

Flights of Fancy: September 18
Let's discover together how winged creatures take flight. We'll take a closer look at dragon and damselflies, birds, and bees, and even how flying squirrels get around. We'll make our own wings to take home.

Insects and Spiders: September 25
We'll use our hand lenses and bug boxes to observe these very busy creatures in their habitats. How many legs do spiders and insects have? Let's count together. We'll create our own insects out of materials we find in our home.

Mammal Scavenger Hunt: October 2
We know mammals live on the sanctuary, but we can't always see them. Let's put our tracking skills to the test and try to locate them on a scavenger hunt by the tracks, scat, and chews they have left behind.

Welcome, Fall: October 9
Fall can be just as colorful as spring. We'll go on an autumn leaf walk and observe how trees are preparing for winter and how many types, sizes, and textures of leaves there are. We'll make leaf rubbings from fallen leaves.

Owls: October 16
Think you have to be around at night to see an owl? These birds can be mysterious and exciting to watch if you are lucky enough to see one in the wild. We'll go on an owl prowl to look for owls that like to hunt during the day. We'll look for pellets and white wash to discover where the owls have been. We'll even make our own edible owl pellets. Yum, yum.

Bats: October 23
Halloween is just around the corner, so it seems fitting to learn more about these mysterious creatures of the night. Are bats really blind, and do they all live in caves? Let's find out why it's a good thing to have them in our yard. We'll create our own bat wands to fly through the forest.

Instructions and Directions: Meets in the Nature Center. Please dress for the weather since we will be outside most of the time. Limited to 8 adult/child pairs. The fee covers one adult/child pair.
