The Ipswich River is the perfect river to start your children canoeing. We'll pair up two adults and two children per boat and take a leisurely paddle up the river.

We'll stop off in one of the backwater areas and do some dipping in the river to observe up close all the creatures under the surface. On our return, we'll lunch at the canoe landing and talk about what we discovered. Bring your lunch and a blanket, and we'll provide a sweet treat.

Instructions and Directions: Meets in front of the Visitor Center. Basic instruction will be provided, along with all equipment. A confirmation with a list of what to wear and bring will be sent.

Registration is required.

From Boston and the south: Take Rt I-95 north to exit 50 and follow Rt 1 north. At the junction of Rt 1 and Rt 97, turn right onto Rt 97 south (toward Beverly and Danvers). Follow Rt 97 south and take the third left onto Perkins Row. Follow Perkins Row for 1 mile, and the sanctuary is on the right.

From the north: Take Rt I-95 south to exit 53A and follow Rt 97 south. At the junction of Rt 1 and Rt 97 in Topsfield, stay on Rt 97 south and take the third left onto Perkins Row. Follow Perkins Row for 1 mile, and the sanctuary is on the right.
