Every fall about a dozen species of hawks, whose lives are normally hidden from us in the trees, migrate southward for the winter. To do this, they must rise above the canopy and reveal themselves as they fly past various outlooks including several in the Middlesex Fells.

This two-part program will first introduce you to the identification of hawks by using David Brown’s videos to learn their field marks. Then we will hike up to Pinnacle Rock to watch for hawks migrating past this outlook. The program will begin with an hour presentation at the Botume House from where we will carpool to Pinnacle Rock in the southeast part of the Fells.

David Brown is a professional naturalist who has videotaped hawks at Pinnacle Rock and elsewhere for many years. Sponsored by the Friends of the Middlesex Fells. Suggested donation $10.

Location
Botume House Visitor Center and Pinnacle Rock. Meet at the Middlesex Fells Reservation’s Visitor Center, 4 Woodland Road, Stoneham, ½ mile south from the Stone Zoo on the east bank of Spot Pond.
