Gallivanting Grasshoppers: September 15
Join us as we visit the fields of the sanctuary in search of fascinating grasshoppers.
Using hand lenses we will examine their body parts, and we will learn about their life cycles, eating habits, and ways they communicate.
As a group we will compare the similarities and differences of other insects that we find that share the same habitat.
Mammal Scavenger Hunt: September 22
We know that many mammals live on the sanctuary, but we can't always see them.
Let's put our tracking skills to the test and try to locate them on a scavenger hunt by the tracks, scat, and chews that they have left behind.
Wonderful Wetlands: September 29
Come explore the wonders of the wetlands.
With buckets and strainers in hand, we will hike to the pond to observe and examine the critters that live below the surface of the water.
We will look and listen for frogs, toads, and other wildlife.
Scurrying Squirrels: October 6
We will learn about squirrels and their cousins, the chipmunks, and discover how they are similar and how they differ.
We will quietly explore the sanctuary looking for them, and discover what they are doing to prepare for the winter months ahead.
Autumn Leaves: October 13
Join us on an autumn leaf walk as we admire the beautiful colors of fall.
We will discover the different shapes, sizes, textures, and colors of leaves during a leaf scavenger hunt, and create leaf rubbings.
On our return we will use our leaves to create an art project to take home.
Batty Bats: October 20
Halloween is just around the corner, so it seems fitting to learn more about these mysterious creatures of the night.
Are bats really blind and do they all live in caves?
Let's find out why it's a good thing to have them in our yard.
We'll create our own bat wands to fly through the forest.
