July 11
When we read Feathers for Lunch by Lois Ehlert, no one gets eaten, but we do meet some of our most common and colorful birds.
We will examine bird mounts, learn some bird songs, and more.
Toting binoculars, we will hike the trails in search of our feathered friends.
Frogs and Toads: July 18
We will read How They Grow: Frogs by Angela Royston, and learn about the life cycle of frogs and how they move, eat, and swim as we explore the wetlands, vernal pools, and fields of the sanctuary.
Spiders: July 25
We will observe the differences between spiders and insects and read Are You a Spider?
by Judy Allen.
Equipped with nets and bug boxes, we will look for these useful and beautiful creatures.
Tracks and Signs: August 1
We will read Whose Tracks are These?
by James Nail.
Let's find out what animals are living here at the sanctuary.
We will use our detective skills to observe footprints, nibbled twigs, and scat, and create our own tracks in mud and sand.
