There's no better place in the city of Boston to celebrate our nation's founding than Old South Meeting House. Built in 1729 as a Puritan Meeting House, Old South has been a community gathering place, a true sanctuary of freedom, since the American Revolution. As part of Harborfest, the city-wide celebration of our colonial and maritime heritage, Old South Meeting House offers six days of activities fit for the whole family. All activities are included in the price of admission.

Activity Highlights

Tuesday, July 1, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where the Boston Tea Party Began!
Come learn about the Tea Tax Debates that took place at Old South Meeting House in 1773. Decorate your own tea crate label or try a tea-themed scavenger hunt. Then, stage your own protest against our historic Boston Harbor photo backdrop.


Wednesday, July 2, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Colonial Children's Faire
Discover the fascinating history of Old South through colonial games and special activities!

Wednesday, July 2, 6 p.m.
Old South goes to the movies
Watch the classic 1957 film about a young silversmith caught up in the dramatic events of the American Revolution. Free popcorn!


Thursday, July 3, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Colonial Clothing
Try on a tri-corne hat or a mobcap, a colonial style dress or some breeches. Learn about life before zippers, elastic and Velcro!


Friday, July 4, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Book signing by Kay Winters, acclaimed children's book author of Colonial Voices: Hear them Speak! Signing takes place in the Museum Shop-books are available for purchase.

Friday, July 4, 11 a.m.
No Tax on Tea!
Over 5,000 people attended the final fiery tea tax debate at Old South Meeting House on December 16, 1773. Now it is your turn to participate in a re-enactment of one of the historic debates leading up to the Boston Tea Party. Read from pre-written character cards or create your own arguments to 'pay the tax' or 'dump the tea!'
