The Ballet:
Giselle tells the story of a peasant girl named Giselle who returns as a ghost after her premature death, and protects her lover from the vengeance of a group of evil female spirits called the Wilis. The Wilis, maidens who have been jilted before their wedding day, rise at night from their graves and seek revenge upon young men by luring them and then dancing them to death.
The role of Giselle is one of the most sought-after roles in all ballet. It demands technical perfection, outstanding grace and lyricism, as well as great dramatic skill. In the first act Giselle conveys the innocence and love of a country girl, and the heartbreak of being betrayed. In the second act Giselle is otherworldly, but loving.
This ballet is fully staged with colorful scenery, costumes and special effects. It is suitable for all ages.
Post Performance Reception: All performance ticket holders are welcome to meet the dancers at a reception after the performance.
