She is best known for the novel Little Women, set in the Alcott family home, Orchard House in Concord, Massachusetts, and published in 1868. This novel is loosely based on her childhood experiences with her three sisters.
Join us for a living history experience with Jan Turnquist, Executive Director of Orchard House, the Alcott Family home in Concord, MA. The author of Little Women brings us behind the scenes on a journey back in time to 1870. Discover the rich heritage of the Alcotts; family friendships with Thoreau and Emerson; and the family love that inspired her to write an American classic. In her later life, Alcott became an advocate for women's suffrage and was the first woman to register to vote in Concord, Massachusetts, in a school board election.
Visit the Orchard House model in the Museum’s “Big and Little” exhibit now on display through July 1.
