Through music, movement and evocative sets, the 185 choristers of PALS will bring the sea, the ship Pequod and the whale to life on stage.
Though the script is based on Hermann Melville's masterpiece of American literature, it has been adapted so as to be accessible to a cast and an audience that include children.
Musically, though composed with modern techniques, the opera maintains the tradition of the melodic leitmotif, making its intricate sonorities accessible and engaging for both music lovers and the general public, both children and adults.
The Vienna Boys' Choir presented the World Premiere of this opera in 2004, and will perform it again in February 2013, for the opening season of its new concert hall.
PALS Children's Chorus' May 2013 production will be the American Premiere.
