The sing was developed by two friends who saw a need in Boston, a city with a rich maritime heritage, of a family friendly venue for the preservation and promotion of maritime tradition in the form of nautical work songs known as “Sea Chanteys”.
The history of battles, the mystery and science of weather, the geography, topography and landmarks that lead to a destination and the psychology and romance of family and patriotism that spurs a sailor out to sea, all contained in the imaginative and often spontaneous lyrics, would strengthen the resolve of the reticent, enlarge the heart and moisten the eye.
That is the legacy of the Sea Chantey.
