April is an exciting month at Puppet Showplace, New England's first and only theater solely dedicated to the presentation of puppetry performances and education programs for all ages.

The theater closes for Marathon Monday, April 18 and will re-open for two performances each day during School Vacation Week, April 19-24.

Reservations for all events are strongly recommended.

APRIL SCHOOL VACATION WEEK

'The Billy Goats Gruff and Other Stuff' by All Hands Productions
Tues-Thurs, April 19-21 at 10:30am & 1pm

Did you know that Little Red Riding Hood has a first name? Or that there's more to the lives of the Three Little Pigs than their famous encounter with the Wolf? Award-winning puppeteer David Stephens takes audiences clip-clopping across the bridge and onwards through story land, with a few original twists along the way. Live music, witty dialogue, and lots of audience interactivity make this a delightful show for all ages! Recommended for ages 3+. $15/General Admission, $10/Members

'Everybody Loves Pirates' by Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers
Fri, April 22 at 10:30am & 1pm
Sat & Sun, April 23 & 24 at 1pm & 3pm

Eight-year-old Lucy and her goofy pal Little Chucky are searching for buried treasure, but a gang of bumbling pirates keeps getting in the way! The kids get some help from their new ocean-dwelling friends, including enthusiastic superhero Lobster Boy, his reluctant sidekick Crabby, and an overgrown sea monkey. 'Everybody Loves Pirates' features 15 hand-crafted mouth and rod puppets, and an 8 foot paper-mache pirate ship. Don't miss this swashbuckling adventure that's fun for the whole family! For toddlers, Bella Monster and friends will lead weekly live music sing-a-longs, dramatic play and short puppets shows. For adults and teens, Wayang Kulit shadow puppeteers and gamelon musicians will present a special event performance and hands-on workshop on April 11.

  • New England animals are the stars of this charming story about friends in a wetland habitat. The little pond where Blanding the Turtle has lived for many years is no longer safe because a road has been built between there and the place she goes to lay her eggs.

  • When she meets young Castor the Beaver, who is eager to build a dam, she sees that her pond problems might be solved! Along the way, we also meet a young boy and his babysitter who learn together how to look closely at nature.

  • Deborah Costine brings this story to life with a naturalist's eye, conveying ecological details through expert design. Each show begins with a hands-on presentation of real-world specimens from the woodlands of Massachusetts! Recommended for ages 4-10. $12/General Admission, $8/Members.

  • Get ready to explore the world under our feet in this underground puppet adventure. Tunnel down with Worm and Sprout to discover the mysterious life found inside soil. Along the way, kids help figure out the secrets of what Sprout needs to grow! Award-winning performer Liz Joyce brings this ecological wonderland to life with rotating scenery, multiple puppetry styles, projections, and song! Recommended for ages 3-8. $12/General Admission, $8/Members.

  • Explore the wilds of Sherwood Forest in this rollicking retelling of the classic adventure tale! When Robin discovers that the Sheriff of Nottingham is up to no good, he sees his chance to fight back and fulfill his dream of becoming a hero. Of course, he'll need a little help from his friends. Join Maid Marion, Little John, and a mischievious deer with excellent taste in clothes on a medieval mission to save the forest. This production features hilarious dialogue, original music, and beautifully-crafted costumes and scenery. Recommended for ages 5+. $12/General Admission, $8/Members.
