The CSO’s season opener for the 2016-2017 season begins with a coronation: the Crown Imperial march that played for King George IV in 1937.

From that triumphant beginning, we move to George Gershwin’s jazzy 1928 tone poem, An American in Paris, inspired by the clattering taxi horns and irresistible romance of the French capital.

As the centerpiece of this concert, the CSO is joined by four acclaimed soloists and two choirs coming together for Michael Tippett’s powerful oratorio A Child of Our Time.

Written during the rise of the Nazis in prewar Germany, in response to the oppression of Europe’s Jewish population, the work crosses the ocean to integrate African-American spirituals into its universal cry for peace and healing.
