3 will be the critically-acclaimed Beth Morrison Projects with Song from the Uproar (2012), a song cycle based on the life and writings of Isabella Eberhardt, an early 20th-century explorer, nomad, journalist, novelist, Sufi and one of the most unique and unusual women of her era.
The New York Times called Beth Morrison’s production of Song from the Uproar is “[a] live performance and video fused with unusual potency…a haunting multimedia performance piece.”
At age 27, Eberhardt drowned in a flash flood in the desert.
Pages from her journals were pulled from the flood and dried, and one hundred years later became the inspiration for the project’s libretto.
The multi-media program includes music by Missy Mazzoli, libretto by Royce Vavrek and Missy Mazzoli, a film by Steven Taylor, and features Abigail Fischer and The Firebird Ensemble.
Songs from the Uproar will be performed as part of the Museum’s STIR series, which encourages artists and audiences alike to be bold and explore something new with innovative and experimental art forms converging for an entirely unique experience each time.
The STIR series will take place on Thursday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Calderwood Hall, located at 25 Evans Way, Boston, Mass.
Tickets are required, which may be purchased in advance or at the door, and include Museum admission.
Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors, $5 for students with valid IDs; free for members; and youth age 7 and under are not admitted.
