He was very active collaborating with his contemporary composers, and here we feature two of the composers with whom he had personal contact: Granados and Saint-Saens.
Our pianist Rieko Aizawa brings her own period instrument, a clavichord, to Pickman Hall.
She inherited this instrument from her teacher, Peter Serkin, who inherited this same clavichord from his and Rieko's teacher, Mr. Horszowski.
Clavichord was Bach's favorite instrument.
She will perform both Bach and one of the newest compositions written for clavichord on her most personal instrument.
In-residence at Longy since 2016, the Horszowski Trio works closely with student chamber music groups in coachings, masterclasses, and performances throughout the academic year.
Jesse Mills, Rieko Aizawa, and new member Ole Akahoshi are also faculty artists in Longy’s violin, piano, and cello departments, respectively.
Many years of close friendship had created a deep trust between the players, which in turn sparks exhilarating expressive freedom.
