Measuring the World: Creating and Using Scientific Instruments
About the Exhibit - Prints and the Pursuit of Knowledge
Before cameras, GPS systems, and wristwatches, how did people record what they saw? navigate their journeys? tell time? The exhibition Prints and the Pursuit of Knowledge in Early Modern Europe shows us how artists of the 16th century contributed to scientific investigations—by making books about animals and the human body, maps of land and sky, and sundials and other instruments—and shaped the way people understood their world. Activities will include gallery explorations and art-making experiences. Recommended for children ages 8 and up.
