puppets take prudential photoThe Prudential Tower and Boston skyline will light up with Puppet Showplace Theatre’s signature color orange on Thursday, December 30th, when The Shops at Prudential celebrate and honor the theater as part of its month-long “31 Nights of Light” celebration of local non-profits.

As part of the “Puppets Take Prudential” celebration, Puppet Showplace Theatre will be presenting a day’s worth of activities and exhibits for the entire family, throughout the Prudential Center mall and at the Puppet Showplace Theatre in Brookline Village.

At the Prudential Center, enjoy a free afternoon performance of “The Carrot Salesman” by Brad Shur, Puppet Showplace Theatre’s Artist in Residence, presented at the Kid’s Stage in Barnes & Noble Booksellers, located along the Huntington Arcade. Also, look for roving puppeteers throughout the mall throughout the day, and a special puppet procession through the pedestrian arcades in the afternoon! And at 5:00 PM, join us in the Belvedere Arcade as we “flip the switch” and light up the Prudential Tower and the Boston skyline with orange.

At the Puppet Showplace Theatre in Brookline Village, there will be two performances of “Hansel and Gretel” by David Syrotiak’s National Marionette Theater at 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM. This traditional telling of the story features beautiful handcrafted marionettes, flawless manipulation, scrolling scenery, and music by Engelbert Humperdinck. This show is recommended for ages 5 and up. Founded in 1967, National Marionette Theatre is one of the oldest continually-running marionette theaters in the United States. Tickets are $10 general admission children and adults; $8 members. Children under 1 years of age are admitted free.

The Puppet Showplace Theatre is located at 32 Station Street, Brookline MA 02445, across from the Brookline Village T Stop on the Green D Line and is wheelchair accessible.
