The Charles River Watershed Association celebrates 28 years of canoe & kayak races on the Charles River at the Run of the Charles on Sunday, April 25! Professional, amateur and recreational canoe and kayak races include international, national, and local racers.
More than 1,500 racers and thousands of spectators line the Charles River as the race winds through Dedham, Needham, Newton, Wellesley, Waltham and Boston to the free day-long Finish Line Festival at DCR’s Artesani Park, Soldiers Field Road, Brighton. Races include the $5000 Professional Flatwater Canoe Marathon, 24-Mile Canoe Relay Race for teams of ten, and 19-, 9- and 6-Mile canoe & kayak races.
The Run of the Charles Canoe & Kayak Race benefits the Charles River Watershed Association which has been working to protect the health and beauty of the Charles River since 1965. Entry fees range from $35 -$50 per paddler. The Free Finish Line Festival features live music, games, refreshments, and exhibits.
