MATHEMATICS IN A MONTESSORI SCHOOL
Modern humans are mathematical by nature.
This does not just mean those who are good at arithmetic or excelled in algebra, for the mathematical mind is much more than that.
People perceive patterns, make order, quantify and recalculate without knowing they are even doing it.
Dr. Maria Montessori believed the child’s mind is not just capable of mathematical thought, but is itself mathematical.
She believed that the human mind naturally sorts, classifies and quantifies objects and elements of its environment.
Montessori designed numerous materials to help the child do this.
She created her materials to challenge and encourage the child for their mneme needs this.
It is not only materials from the math area of the classroom that foster the mathematical mind, but Practical Life, Sensorial and Language.
Please join us for an introduction to mathematics in the unique setting of a Montessori classroom.
Our experienced faculty will give you an overview of how math is presented to children from 15 months through to twelve years of age.
From basic counting to pattern recognition to division and work in bases.
