While many people mistakenly believe Franklin was born in Philadelphia, he was actually born in 1706 the son of a candle and soap maker in Boston, just across from Old South Meeting House on Milk Street.
He was baptized in the original Old South Meeting House building, a wooden meeting house that was replaced in 1729 by the current brick building. Franklin lived in Boston until he was a teenager, developing his inquisitive mind, mastering a variety of skills, and becoming a keen observer of the world around him.
Now, families can learn all about the Meeting House's most famous neighbor during our April School Vacation Week programs. Our hands-on activities will give visitors an opportunity to see first hand how Franklin's little observations led to great discoveries!
Families will also learn about Franklin's early years as a boy in Boston. Activities are included in museum admission and are great for school-aged children.

See if you can recreate the eerie sounds of his glass armonica using water glasses, and create your own ocean tide.
