Activities revolve around the theme “Winter Song,” inspired by a choirbook in the Gardner collection
Isabella Stewart Gardner, an avid art collector, was given a choirbook rescued from a shipwreck off Naples in the 1600s.
The large, mysterious book is a favorite at the Museum.
In light of Isabella’s appreciation for music, come explore early music notation as seen in the choirbook.
Activities include:
Bertucci Education Studio, 11 am – 4 pm Compose your own short musical composition in the Studio and experiment with luxurious materials similar to those found in the special exhibition Beyond Words.
Calderwood Hall, throughout the day Create musical arrangements using your whole body!
Electric Violinist Josh Knowles brings your composition to life and riffs on a melody you create.
Historic Palace, 11 am – 4 pm
How many musical instruments can you spot at the Gardner?
Pick up a gallery hunt around the Courtyard, then head to the galleries to see how many instruments you can find.
Living Room, 11 am – 4 pm
Send a “note” to someone special this winter season.
Head to the Living Room to make a music-inspired greeting card.
Courtyard, 11 am – 4 pm
Musical performances by Afro-Colombian songstress Alea with Flavio Lira on guitar and bass.
Visitors age 17 and under receive free admission.
The “Winter Song” themed week will take place December 26, 28, 29, and 30 from 11 am to 4 pm.
