The Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, is currently on its way to deliberately crash into the Moon. On October 9th, LCROSS will search for water ice by sending its spent rocket to impact the permanently shadowed south polar crater.

How will this work? Is it possible for amateur astronomers to see the impact? What are the chances of a “smashing” success? Join us, this Friday at 7 PM, after a showing of Tonight’s Sky to learn about this fascinating mission as we “count down to impact”.

Following the program will be a FREE Skywatch outside with the New Hampshire Astronomical Society. Telescope viewing begins at dusk (weather permitting).

$9 Adult, $6 Child (3-12), $8 Student/Senior. Free for Members. If General Admission is purchased before 5 PM, program ticket is $3.
