Get close to live beetles, scorpions, and centipedes; learn how butterflies get their wings and fireflies flash their light; and meet the Harvard scientists who collect and study these amazing creatures. Free with museum admission.
Activity Highlights Include
At 12:30 pm, discover how researchers at Harvard are drawing inspiration from insects to design swarms of robots for jobs like construction, exploration, and pollination in Robot Insects and Swarm Robotics, a program by Harvard scientist Justin Werfel. Learn about current work in the Self-Organizing Systems Research Group and Microrobotics Lab, which are developing robot versions of termites and bees. Content may be challenging for young children. Ideal for adults and children ages 12 and older.
At 2:00 pm, a screening of Vanishing of the Bees, a documentary which examines the mysterious disappearance of honeybees across the planet. Filmed spanning the US, in Europe, Australia and Asia, it examines the alarming phenomena known as Colony Collapse Disorder, and the greater meaning it holds about the relationship between mankind and mother earth. Narrated by Ellen Page. Content may be challenging for young children. Ideal for adults and children ages 12 and older.
