Formed by winter rains and snow melt, vernal ponds are one of the most important wetland resources, yet often they are the last to get protected. Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team executive director, Rick Roth presents 'Vernal Ponds,' a short introductory film on vernal pond ecology.

Afterwards, meet a few animals associated with vernal ponds! Rick shares the importance of protecting these delicate, fishless havens that support myriad species, including some that require vernal pond habitat for one or more stages of their life cycle. As we usher spring, the season for vernal ponds, discover Massachusetts' unique vernal pond certification program and how individuals protect fragile landscapes.

The Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to vernal pond conservation and education since 1990.
