Take a friend or family member fishing--you won't need a fishing license in freshwater for these two days! It is time well spent with family and friends. All other fishing regulations apply. Free fishing weekends in Massachusetts include the first Saturday & Sunday in June.
While you can fish for free on these weekends, a license is required at all other times for those 15 years of age or older.
At all other times, youths ages 15 to 17 must obtain and carry a fishing license; however, licenses are free for that age group. Funds from fishing license sales support MassWildlife’s fisheries research, fish stocking programs, and angler education programs.
Your purchase of a fishing license directly supports fishing, stocking, education and fish habitat management programs.
How to Get a MA Fishing License
Unlike most other state agencies, the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife does not receive general tax fund revenues.
