As a part of our Fun Fall Weekends this year, we will be offering themed hayrides each weekend!

This weekend, our rides will be Halloween Extravaganza-themed. We encourage attendees to dress accordingly if they feel so inclined!

Reservations must be made at least 24 hours prior to the day of the event. You can reserve your spot by emailing education@smolakfarms.com. No tickets will be available at the time of the event.

Hayride Wasn't Worth The Money

My 5-year-old daughter and I went on the Trick-or-Treat hayride today. My jaw nearly dropped open when I was asked to pay $16 -- $12 for each child 2 and under, and $4 for each adult. Honestly, $12 for a child's ticket??? If my daughter had been only 2, it would have been even more outrageous. Nowhere on the Smolak Farms website did it say that the Trick or Treat hayride would cost this much. Had I known in advance, I would not have brought her on the hayride, but we were already at the front of the ticket line and my daughter was raring to go. The line was ridiculously long, and we waited in line about an hour for what turned out to be a 15-minute hayride at most (though she did get a few treats and a small pumpkin out of the deal, so I guess that makes up for it somewhat). Once we got going, it was a decent hayride, and there were good-quality pumpkins to pick from at the end of the ride, so it wasn't a total wash. The Trick-or Treat hayride is admittedly a very good idea, and I realize that Smolak Farms has to make their money somewhere, but the price and the wait really made a negative impression. I overheard some parents saying with the price and the wait time, 'It's like being at Disneyland'...which is not meant to be a compliment. I would like to see Smolak Farms lower the price of the hayride next year. Smolak, like so many other 'family-oriented' places in the New England suburbs, is beginning to outprice the customers they wish to attract and keep.
