Family Gallery Tour: Don’t Pet the Dragons – Art from China
A 30-minute, hands-on gallery adventure just for families! Recommended for families with children age 5 and up.
Hands-on Activities | Life at Sea
11 am – 4 pm | Atrium
The National Park Service demonstrates sail rigging and how to tie traditional sailor’s knots. Make your own telescope, spell your name with maritime signal flags, and paint a watercolor postcard inspired by the magnificent Dutch ships found in the paintings in the exhibition. Stop by the Information Desk to pick up the gallery kit Ships Ahoy and set sail on an adventure through the museum galleries!
Sailor Tattoos

Steve Aldeus of Rockstar Airbrush Tattoos will ink you up just like a sailor! Using FDA approved, non-allergenic and 100% organic ink, each tattoo takes just a few minutes to apply and will last up to 2 weeks!
A Sailor’s Life for Me! Pictures Come to Life Storyteller Jeff Hopkins
Saturday, noon, and Sunday, 1 pm, Atrium
Immerse yourself in life at sea with storyteller and illustrator Jeff Hopkins as he simultaneously recounts and sketches sailors’ adventures on a wall-sized mural. Visitors are invited to add their own touches to the artwork after the story.
