Families can also learn about typical Japanese summer traditions and activities, including Yukata (summer kimono) & Happi (festival jacket), Uchiwa (Japanese fan making), Yo-yo tsuri (water yoyogame), Tako (kite making), Shibori-zome (Japanese tie-tye), and O-bon festival dance, and more. Events will take place both inside and outside.
The sister-city relationship between Boston and Kyoto is one of the oldest in the world and still very active. Boston Children's Museum is the home of Kyo-no-Machiya, an authentic silk merchant's house from Kyoto, Japan, that was given to the city of Boston by Kyoto in 1979.
