All amateur photographers are invited to submit images to the Essex Heritage Photo Contest that capture the essence of the Essex National Heritage Area, or speak to Essex Heritage's role in preserving the historic, cultural and natural treasures of Essex County. Qualifying photographs must be taken in the Essex National Heritage Area and represent one of four categories: 'My Space,' 'On a Photo Safari,' 'General Images of ENHA” or 'National Historic Landmarks.'
All submissions are due by October 16, 2009, and any photos captured between November 1, 2008 and October 15, 2009 are eligible. Download Photo Contest Regulations and Application for more information.
Photo contest categories are defined as follows:
My Space: photographs that reflect people engaging with their Heritage Area.
On a Photo Safari: images taken during an Essex Heritage Photo Safari, representing the spirit of the event.
General Images of the Essex National Heritage Area: photos that are representative of this unique region reflecting the rocky coasts and harbors, farms and forests, historic districts, rivers and marshes of Essex County.
National Historic Landmarks: photos of designated National Historic Landmarks in Essex County. Download a list of NHLs in Essex County here or you may consult the list of National Historic Landmarks by state at www.nps.gov/nhl. (Individuals who submit images to this category are also eligible to enter the National Park Service photo contest. Read about 'Imagining our National Heritage' at the NPS website.)
The following prizes will be awarded:
Grand Prize: Digital SLR camera outfit
First Prize (in each category): Digital Point-& Shoot camera outfit
Second Prize (in each category): Hunt's Photo & Video $100 Gift Certificate
Third Prize (in each category): America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Annual Pass.
