Adventures from Thornton Burgess with the Gerwick Puppets

Peter Rabbit, Hooty Owl, Whitefoot the Woodmouse and Jimmy Skunk are among the memorable characters Thronton Burgess wrote about in more than 170 children's books, including the classic Mother West Wind titles.

These delightful woodland characters come alive - hunting for food, building nests, making friends, and hiding from enemies - in two of Burgess's tales performed by the Gerwick Puppets. (Unclaimed ticketed seats will be released for general admission ten minutes prior to the start of the performance.)

Join Joseph Bruchac, a multi-award-winning author and Abenaki storyteller, as he reads from his latest book, Wabi: A Hero's Tale, about a great horned owl that shape-shifts into a human. Bruchac also tells several owl stories from his Native American culture. Wabi won't be in stores until April. Come for a sneak preview!

Drop-in Activity: Open Mic on Owls

Art Studios

Have you written a story about owls or other animals? Do you have a favorite owl story to tell? Young and old, come share your stories with an audience! Animal and owl puppets are available to animate your story. Singer, songwriter, and PEM programs manager Jennifer Evans, opens this event, singing All God's Critters by Bill Staines.

Storywriting Workshop: Create an Owl Story

Artist and educator Deb Whitmore leads this fun and imaginative workshop. Build a story or poem around a work of art that catches your eye in the Owls in Art and Nature exhibition.

Storyteller Gwendolyn Quezaire-Presutti performs elaborate animal tales that reveal truths about the world. At PEM, she shares owl folktales from African-American and Native American perspectives.
