Perhaps the most famous children’s author of the 20th century, Theodore Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss, wrote and illustrated nearly 50 books during his lifetime. His books were famous for their funny rhymes and whimsical characters. Among his most famous titles are The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Oh the Places You’ll Go.
Grammy-nominated Rushad Eggleston and vocalist Aoife O’Donovan often perform together in the band Wild Band of Snee, performing sneaky original melodic music from the land of Snee. Eggleston formed the Band of Snee in 2003 so that all the tunes, words and creatures that were haunting him could have a residence on earth.
In addition to a performance from Eggleston and O’Donovan, the celebration will feature arts & crafts and, of course, a birthday cake.
Cost
The celebration is free for children with a suggested $5 donation for adults.
About Rushad Eggleston
Eggleston is a master of improvisation; his keen, inventive skill at adapting fiddler styles for the cello is nothing short of revolutionary. He performs regularly with the Grammy-nominated Fiddlers 4 as well as Darol Anger’s American Fiddle Ensemble.
About Aoife O’Donovan
O’Donovan’s angelic voice brings mature expressivity to traditional songs, merging American, Irish, Klezmer and jazz styles. While studying at the New England Conservatory, she joined fiddler Matt Glaser’s all-star band, the Wayfaring Strangers. In June 2005, O’Donovan was a featured soloist with the world-class Boston Pops.
About Culture for Kids
Created by the Passim Folk Music and Cultural Center in 1999, Culture for Kids is a free musical and cultural education offered by Passim for underserved children in Cambridge and Greater Boston. Reaching 2,500 children annually, Culture for Kids engages students in the arts through a celebration of music, dance, art, and cuisine of the many cultures found within the local community.
Culture for Kids reaches children who may not have the benefit of cultural and artistic opportunities in their schools or communities. Ultimately, the program strives to help build an openness and tolerance for others among participants, skills they can take forward from this program into the rest of their life experiences.
