Boston Beanpot Cycling Classic - America's largest collegiate cycling race! Free for spectators! Saturday April 8, 2006. View Spectator Guide.

Over 500 cyclists from dozens of Northeastern colleges and universities will descend upon the Boston area for the Boston Beanpot Cycling Classic, a race weekend hosted by Harvard, Tufts, Boston College, Boston University, MIT, Brandeis, Northeastern, and Wentworth College. This three-race 'classic' features a Team Time Trial, Criterium, and Road Race in and around the greater Boston area. This will be the largest collegiate cycling race in the nation.

The Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference welcomes spectators of all ages for what promises to be an exciting weekend of fast-paced racing. A
full 2006 ECCC schedule and results can be found at www.eccc-info.com.

Race Schedule
Saturday morning is the challenging Team Time Trial held on the beautiful country roads of Grafton, Massachusetts. The 7.6-mile course features an initial descent and a finishing rise intended to test each college's best 4-person teams against the clock. A fast descent and climb to the finish line will require that each team ration their efforts in order to have enough
left in the tank to make it up the grueling half-mile hill together.

Saturday afternoon features the epic Grafton Hills Road Race, with multiple circuits around a formidable 14-mile loop starting in Grafton Center. Used for the 1996 Eastern Championships, Grafton has also hosted stages of the Tour de Trump and Tour Dupont. The hilly circuit will test the legs and strategy of all collegiate riders in the longest race so far this season. The top-level men will have to race a very hilly 72 miles, with all levels ending on a tough half-mile finishing climb up to Grafton Common.

Sunday is the Tufts Campus Criterium in Somerville, MA, one of the toughest six-corner courses in the Northeast. Each lap, racers will navigate half a dozen 90-degree corners, with a fast, steep climb before the long finishing stretch. With the elite Class A Women and Men racing 35 and 45 laps, respectively, some of the best racers in the country will be tested as they corner nearly 300 times and sprint for up to six intermediate scoring opportunities during their events. This short, technical course will provide exciting racing at high speed on the edge of the Tufts campus.
