Did You Know? Nearly 60 percent of African-American children cannot swim, according to
the first-of-its –kind survey which USA Swimming has conducted with the University of
Memphis.
The second leading cause of unintentional injury to children ages 5-14 is drowning.
9 People drown every day in the United States; 6 out of 9 are Minorities. African-American
children drown at a rate almost three times the overall rate.
Bring your friends, family and neighbors to BCYF’s Recreation Center at Madison Park. Kick-Off - with US Olympic Swimming Gold Medalist, Anthony Ervin.
Activities include:
Know the Water – water fun activities/learn basic swimming skills
Introduction/Water Safety Talk “Reach or Throw Don’t Go”
Water Safety Equipment – Learning about Life Jackets (PFD’s)
Swim Team Exhibition Swims & Water Polo Game

Fun, Games and Prizes
Attire: Swim trunks (Male); One piece Swim Suit (Females), Flip Flops or water shoes, Towel, Goggles and bathing cap.
