Expert guides from the L.L.Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Schools® will be on the Boston Common, leading demonstrations and providing an opportunity to learn about and try new outdoor activities.
Participants and passersby will also have the opportunity to take photos with the L.L.Bean Bootmobile, the 13-foot-high, larger-than-life version of the outdoor retailer’s most iconic product.
The Mayor will also announce Boston’s Summer Kayak Series, a free program which will provide local children and families with the opportunity to get outside and discover a new activity this summer. The program will kick off on June 16 in Millennium Park in West Roxbury, with subsequent events taking place on June 23, July 14 and July 21.
Participants will receive an introduction to recreational kayaking and learn basic skills and safety, followed by a trip out onto the Charles River. The kayaking sessions will be open to Boston residents ages eight years and older.
In its anniversary year, L.L.Bean is on a on a year-long mission to re-ignite America’s love of the outdoors. The company’s founder Leon Leonwood believed that spending time outdoors was fundamental to happiness in life and it is this belief that still continues to drive the company in all that it does, 100 years later. L.L.Bean’s anniversary programs are designed to preserve the outdoors for the next generation and create exciting new outdoor experiences for everyone.
