Two kinds of plants can be called 'heirloom' -- those coming down to us, unmodified, from the past 200 years and those carefully 'back-bred' to possess known characteristics of earlier ancestors. The results are often a more flavorful vegetable or unique flower. Heirloom plants enjoy great popularity here in New England.
Varieties include many New England native perennials including ferns, Jack-in-the-Pulpit and Bleeding Heart as well as other interesting non-native perennials among them several varieties of Hosta. Annuals will include Love Lies Bleeding, Grandpa Ott’s Morning Glory, Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate, and Flowering Maples, to name a few. There will be 15 varieties of heirloom tomatoes including: Black Prince, Peacevine Cherry and Brandywine as well as varieties of peppers; eggplants; and herbs.
