Located across from the Esplanade’s famed Hatch Shell and the landmark Arthur Fiedler statue, the Esplanade River Dock was dilapidated for decades and then closed to the public in 2004.
TEA, in partnership with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA), rebuilt the dock and has restored it as the Esplanade’s most prominent gateway between the parklands and the Charles River. Each year more than two million visitors enjoy the park and now this impressive dock.
More than 25 non-profit partner organizations are participating in the festivities with information stations including: Boston Cares, MassGeneral for Children, Boston Public Library, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, CityYear, Partners for Youth with Disabilities, Community Boating, Museum of Science, AIDS Action, Charles River Watershed Association, United Way and many others.
Esplanade friends and new visitors alike are encouraged to attend this community celebration on the Esplanade. Prizes will be awarded to guests with the most “Duck Spirit” – by wearing yellow and/or other duck paraphernalia. The Esplanade Duck Party promises to become a much-anticipated annual event.
