On Friday, March 30, Gore Place, the historic Governor Gore estate in Waltham, will offer a “Chautauqua” presentation entitled Mrs. Codman and Mary: Lives from the Early Republic. Visitors will learn about women's lives in the Federal Period (the late 1700s to early 1800s) from the perspective of the women themselves.

Catherine Codman, Rebecca Gore's cousin, and Mary, a servant, will share stories from their lives. Each woman will deliver a short talk, followed by a question and answer session.

Chautauqua is a fact based first-person talk and question and answer session given by a costumed-interpreter, focusing on life stories based on scholarly research and primary sources a multi-sensory experience, immersing the audience in the experience. It is named for Chautauqua, New York where this style of presentation was developed in the late 19th century.
