– On Sunday, October 6 discover the grand estates of Waltham.
Enjoy family-friendly activities at Gore Place, the Lyman Estate, and Stonehurst.
Be sure to pack a blanket and lunch for a picnic on the grounds.
• From 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Lyman Estate, explore the mansion and look at photographs of other properties to discover the many different shapes that make up buildings.
Think about these shapes, colors, and styles and then design your own paper house.
Play old-fashioned games in the grounds.
Visit and shop at Lyman Estate's historic greenhouses.
• From 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Stonehurst, build a mini stone structure — a wall, a tower, or even an arch — using natural clay as mortar.
Inside, hunt for images from nature, which fill the summer house of the outdoorsy Paine family.
• From noon – 2:00 p.m. at Gore Place, it’s no longer 'look but don’t touch!' Take a tour of the first floor and use your senses of sight, smell, touch, and hearing to experience the mansion in a new way.
Explore replicas of household items, listen to the sounds of a nineteenth-century home, and smell the scents common at the time.
