Celebrate the Universal Bond of Motherhood on Sunday, May 5, at the Franklin Park Zoo. Join noted Sudbury sculptor and art instructor Janice Corkin Rudolf at 3:00 p.m. as she unveils the long awaited 6-foot gorilla sculpture “Kiki and Kimani.” This mother-child representation is the final touch to the renovated indoor gorilla exhibit in the zoo’s Tropical Forest. Following the unveiling, Zoo New England President and CEO John Linehan will personally conduct a tour of this incredible animal habitat.

Corkin Rudolf, whose works are permanently installed at the Children’s Hospital, Brimmer and May, and more, and more, spent more than two years studying gorillas. She has come to know the species as loving, gentle and very friendly. And now with about 75% more space in the exhibit, you too can get to know these wonderful animals as you stand face-to-face at one of the five glass viewing stations. A new zookeeper interaction area also allows visitors to view training and feeding sessions as well.

In addition to the unveiling of “Kiki and Kimani,” families will enjoy special Mother’s Day scavenger hunts and zookeeper encounters. Events and parking are free with zoo admission.
